find out more | | Modelmates 49202 Moss Green Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml £2.89 Modelmates 49202 Moss Green Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml
(Please note the following description is based on the sprays.)
Colour: Dirty Mossy / khaki green colour.
Density of Colour: Medium - higher density
Translucency: Medium - less translucent
Water Solubility: Medium to good solubility in water.
Ease Of Use: Easy to use due to the medium quantity of dye in the spray.
About Moss Green: Moss Green has the same dirty tones as the other colours and mixes well with them all. A light coat is often all that is needed to give that green colour so often seen in damp conditions where moss can grow, which can make weathering all the more realistic.
Landscapes: On roads and platforms, Moss Green adds that extra bit of realism giving a slight green shade. On grass, trees and shrub foliage Moss Green tends to be a slightly dark Khaki colour and can be very visible when dry, so not much spray is needed. It is very effective on ballast, rails and sleepers giving a dirty green shade and is best mixed with one of the browns or greys.
Models: It can be applied where ever moss grows on old timber wagons and older carriages, locos. Spray it on the sunny side of walls and roofs, at ground level, near rainwater pipes and at high level behind gutters. Not that visible on dark colours. find out more | | HMRS 22P OO Scale BR Mixed Traffic Lining Pressfix Transfer Sheet £5.79 HMRS 22P OO Scale BR Mixed Traffic Lining Pressfix Transfer Sheet

(Please note the following description is based on the sprays.)
Colour: Muddy - dirty colour. It's just like real mud. Gives a coating that looks like years of dirt build up.
Density of Colour: Medium - higher density.
Translucency: Medium - less translucent.
Water Solubility: Medium solubility in water.
Ease Of Use: Easy to use due to the medium quantity of dye in the spray.
About Mud Brown: It really does look like dirt. One quick spray makes models look weathered. One of our most effective, highest selling colours. Works really well on its own or mixed with any of the other colours, particularly Slate Grey. If you are buying just one spray, then make it this one, or Oil Brown.
Landscapes: On grass, tree and shrub foliage Mud Brown looks a dark muddy colour. In our opinion it's one of the best sprays for use on ballast, rails and sleepers, creating a really muddy/dirty finish. Wipe it off the top of the rails using a damp tissue after it has dried. Also very effective on roads and platforms.
Models: Mud Brown looks like mud when applied to model houses and trains. We use it on almost all our models. find out more | | Modelmates 49204 Rusty Red Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml £2.89 Modelmates 49204 Rusty Red Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml
(Please note the following description is based on the sprays.)
Colour: Rich rusty red/brown colour.
Density of Colour: Medium - higher density.
Translucency: Medium - less translucent.
Water Solubility: Medium to good solubility in water.
Ease Of Use: Easy to use due to the medium quantity of dye in the spray.
About Rusty Red: Rusty Red is a great weathering spray. Its rusty red shade looks like a reddish rusty dirt. A very popular colour.
Landscapes: It's very effective on ballast, rails and sleepers, one of our best sellers. On grass, tree and shrub foliage Rusty Red tends to be a slightly darker Red Brown colour. It can be very visible when dry, so not much spray is needed.
Models: Also effective on platforms and roads, especially if combined with Slate Grey, Mud, Oil and Sand Brown. find out more | | Modelmates 49205 Soot Black Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml £2.89 Modelmates 49205 Soot Black Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml
(Please note the following description is based on the sprays.)
Colour: Soot Black colour. A really rich matt black. Thier darkest spray by far.
Density of Colour: Very high density, very, very dark.
Translucency: Least translucent, almost opaque.
Water Solubility: Least soluble in water.
Ease Of Use: Most difficult to use due to the density spray. Just a little makes things very black.
About Soot Black: A really dense matt black dye spray, really effective and very, very dark. Looks great when used for soot and coal staining on tunnel openings and in coal yard. Spray it over our snow spray in coal wagons and it looks like really black coal residue. (Spray the snow in first, then spray soot black over the top). Because it's sooty black it's easy to make very black weathering very quickly, usually with one coat. It can also be used on models, but please only apply a very light coats. If the surface of the model is non porous Soot Black can be smudged with a damp tissue just like the other Modelmates sprays, but it can be more difficult to remove and is more likely to cause a permanent stain. Please take care when using on models, it's very intense and much darker than the other Modelmates sprays. Use sparingly - least water soluble - please test it first before finally applying to a model.
Landscapes: Looks great as soot staining on tunnel openings, and as coal black in coal yards. It should only be used on trees, shrubs and grass if they need to be very black. Works well on rails, sleepers and ballast making them look really coal black. Wipe it off the top of the rails using a damp tissue after it has dried.
Models: A very black spray. We use it on brick and stonework on our plastic and acrylic buildings to get a really black stain, but only around the base of the building. Spray a light coat, let it dry and then wipe it off with a lightly damp tissue to leave the dye trapped in the joints. (Soot Black can be more difficult to remove, see "About Soot Black" above). Care needs to be taken if it is to be used as soot staining around funnels on locos, the spray is not that directional and is hard to apply in small areas. It will also stain more than any of the other sprays. To spray soot staining around locomotive funnels or diesel exhausts, first protect the model with thick paper or cloths, then cut a hole in a piece of paper the size of the stain, hold the paper about 10mm away from the model and spray over it. Dont hold the can too close to the paper, about 200mm away, and spray very, very lightly moving the can across the model as described in the How To Use section. Practise this technique first before using it on a model, and check to make sure the surface of the model is not porous otherwise the spray will permanently stain it. Dont apply too much, its a very dark spray. Slate Grey is an alternative colour for Soot and exhaust staining because its easier to use and can be made quite dark if 6 to 8 coats are applied. find out more | | Modelmates 49207 Slate Grey Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml £2.89 Modelmates 49207 Slate Grey Weathering Liquid Dye Jar 22ml
(Please note the following description is based on the sprays.)
Colour: Black - blue slate grey colour.
Density of Colour: Medium - light density
Translucency: Medium translucency
Water Solubility: Medium to good solubility in water.
Ease Of Use: Very easy to use due to the medium quantity of dye in the spray.
About Slate Grey: A great colour and one of our biggest sellers. A dirty slate colour that works in many different situations from weathering landscapes to model wagons, carriages and locos. It adds a little blackness to the weathering and is particularly visible on lighter coloured surfaces. Weathered surfaces often have a degree of blackness to them and are not just shades of browns. Works well on its own, but is also really effective when combined with the other colours to create darker patches for greater contrast. Weathering looks more realistic when the colours are mixed.
Landscapes: It is particularly effective on ballast, rails and sleepers and roads. If number of coats are applied it becomes nearly as dark as a light coat of Soot Black. Wipe it off the top of rails using a damp tissue after it has dried. On grass, tree and shrub foliage Slate Grey looks a medium to dark slate colour.
Models: Slate Grey looks like black dirt when applied to model trains and houses. We use it often as a final coat if we feel a weathered model looks a little bright and needs toning down. A nice spray for making soot stain mark near funnels on loco's, and near exhaust outlets. This can be done in the same way as for Soot Black, by spraying over a hole in a piece of paper (see Soot Black Models section here). Easier to use than Soot Black, apply 1 or 2 coats for a little soot staining, and 6 to 8 light coats to make the stain very dark. A light coat makes things look less new and just slightly weathered and a number of coats can make things look very dark and weathered. find out more | |
