Dapol C089 2-6-2 GWR 6100 Class Prairie Steam Tank Loco 00/H0 Scale Plastic Kit. The Great Western railway introduced these 2-6-2 tank locomotives in 1931 for suburban and mixed traffic duties in the London area. They were designed by G. J. Churchward, and a total of 70 were built at Swindon Works. The 6100 class locomotives proved to be very successful, and have worked continuously and with a high degree of reliability since they were introduced. Allocated to various locomotive depots between London and Oxford, their ability to run equally well in either direction thus rendering turntables unnecessary proved to be advantageous. TECHNICAL INFORMATION:The boiler pressure is 225 pounds per square inch and there are two 18-inch diameter cylinders, having a stroke of 30 inches, with piston valves operated by the Stephenson link motion, which is contained between the frames of the locomotive and works off the centre-driving axle. The diameter of the driving wheels is 5ft 8in and the tractive effort is 27,340 pounds. These locomotives weigh 78 tons 9 cwt in working order and the water tanks have a capacity of 2000 gallons.
